This review article focuses on polymers of therapeutic agents used in pharmaceuticals. These dosage forms include e.g tablets, patches, tapes, films, semi-solids and powders. As such, polymers are the backbone of pharmaceutical drug delivery systems check the release of the drug from the device. The main function of the polymer is to protect the drug from the physiological environment and prolong the release of the drug improve its stability. The drug is released from the polymer by diffusion, degradation and swelling. In addition to this review presents Properties and behavior of plant-based and mucoadhesive polymers currently used for drug delivery.
