Abstract | With the economic development is the world and in India waste management is a matter of growing concern. Even the developed countries like US, UK, Japan and Canada face the similar issues. Taking into account the growing population of India, biomedical waste management and mismanagement becomes a matter of great concern. Biomedical wastes are “those types of trash that healthcare facilities make while treating patients, these pollutants pose major risks to both environmental hygiene and human health because they are extremely poisonous and hazardous, therefore it is crucial that these wastes be handled and managed effectively”, which calls for the establishment of an appropriate institutional and regulatory framework. Several legal regulations have occasionally been recognized on a national and international level based on this need. However, there are persistent worries about improper handling of these wastes, making a legal framework analysis crucial. In order to identify inconsistencies in those legal frameworks and the negative effects of widespread inadequate management of healthcare waste on people and the natural environment, this paper aims to evaluate the current laws in India that govern the management of biomedical wastes. It will also analyze the international legal framework on the same topic. |
