Abstract | This research paper explores the adaptation of folklore in Indian English fiction, aiming to uncover the thematic, stylistic, and cultural dimensions of this literary phenomenon. Through a qualitative analysis of selected novels, the study examines the narrative strategies employed by authors to engage with folklore elements within their narratives. The research objectives include identifying recurring motifs of folklore adaptation, comparing narrative techniques across different novels, and exploring the broader implications of folklore adaptation for understanding cultural expression and identity formation in contemporary India. The methodology involves a thematic analysis of textual material, drawing upon insights from existing literature to contextualize the findings. Key findings of the study include the diverse ways in which folklore is adapted and reimagined, ranging from mythological retellings to linguistic adaptations, and from resistance narratives to explorations of hybrid identity. The implications of these findings extend beyond the literary domain, offering insights into the complexities of cultural representation and the negotiation of identity in postcolonial contexts. By bridging the gap between tradition and innovation, folklore adaptation in Indian English fiction enriches our understanding of Indian literary heritage and cultural diversity. |
