Abstract | Rural-urban migration is a significant socio-economic phenomenon in Rajasthan, driven by a complex interplay of push and pull factors such as economic opportunities, education, and healthcare access. This study aims to explore the sociological aspects of rural-urban migration in Rajasthan through a qualitative approach, focusing on the experiences and impacts on migrants and their families. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 30 rural migrants residing in Jaipur, using purposive sampling. The findings reveal that economic opportunities are the primary motivation for migration, with employment being the most significant pull factor. However, migrants face substantial socio-economic challenges, including low wages, job insecurity, overcrowded housing, and social integration issues. Adaptation strategies such as multiple jobs, skill development, and reliance on community networks highlight the resilience of migrants. While migration improves economic conditions through increased income and remittances, it also induces emotional stress and family strain. The study underscores the need for comprehensive policies that address employment, housing, social support, and emotional well-being to enhance the positive outcomes of migration. This research fills a critical gap in understanding the nuanced experiences of migrants, providing valuable insights for policymakers and social scientists. |
