Trends and Patterns of Female Migration in Odisha: A Geographical Analysis

Author(s) Sanjay Mishra, Rekha Das
Country India
Abstract Migration is a significant factor in population change in both the place of origin and the place of destination. This paper's primary goal is to investigate the patterns and trends of female migration in Odisha. The trends, patterns, and causes of female migration in Odisha have been examined using data from the 1971–2011 Census. Utilizing the percentage method, the census data are calculated. In Odisha, female migration outnumbers male migration. Odisha has a high rate of intra district migration, with a declining proportion of female migrants as distance increases. The primary cause of female migration in Odisha is marriage, which is followed by household relocation and moved after birth. Top destinations are Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
