Author(s) Sarita Mehla
Country India
Abstract : The study explores the intricate narratives, cultural practices, and symbolic significance surrounding the relics and images associated with Buddhism's founder, Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha. Through a comprehensive analysis of secondary sources, including historical records, religious texts, archaeological findings, and scholarly interpretations, this study delves into the historical, cultural, and religious contexts that shape the reverence for these sacred artifacts. While acknowledging limitations such as biases, language barriers, and ethical considerations inherent in studying sacred vessels, this research underscores the interdisciplinary nature of the inquiry, drawing upon insights from anthropology, psychology, art history, and technology to deepen our understanding of relic veneration and image worship. Looking ahead, opportunities for future research include incorporating primary research methods, fostering interfaith dialogue, leveraging technological innovations, and engaging with Buddhist communities to continue unraveling the complexities surrounding these revered artifacts. Ultimately, this study contributes to a broader appreciation of human spirituality, cultural heritage, and artistic expression embodied within Buddha's relics and images.
Keywords Buddha's relics, Buddha images, sacred vessels, relic veneration, image worship, cultural heritage, religious symbolism.
