A Panoramic Review of Traditional Use, Phytochemical Composition and Pharmacology of Justicia Gendarussa Burm f

Abstract Justicia gendarussa Burm f. also known as Willow-leaved justicia (family Acanthaceae) is a plant species native to china. This shrub has been used in Indian and Chinese traditional medicine. This plant can be located in different Asian countries. Various phytoconstituents are identified from this plant like Flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, phenolic compounds, saponin and glycosides. The main biologically active constituents found are Lupeol, stigmasterol, Aromadendrin, naringenin, Vitexin, apigenin, Justiprocumin A and B, Patentiflorin A and Justidrusamide A-D. These constituents help to contributes various pharmacological activities like anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-helmintic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-angiogenic, hepatoprotective action and antifertility activity.
The current review focus on the botanical description, traditional uses, phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities of the plant Justicia gendarussa Burm f.
