Book Review: The Black Atlantic: Modernity and Double Consciousness
Author(s) | Asiya Samoon |

Abstract | Paul Gilroy In his book, The Black Atlantic: Modernity and Double Consciousness, argues that, at least when considering Black Atlantic culture, no one theory or piece of evidence can be taken as definitive or the gold standard. As compared to the former, he thinks the latter is little, and its history is ignored. During the course of the book's four chapters, Gilroy raises crucial and thought-provoking themes about diaspora and the metaphor of the trans-Atlantic ocean trip or journey. All the book's chapters revolve on his quest to identify black people "as agents, or individuals with current racism”. |
