Factors Influencing Intimate Partner Violence: A Study on Khulna City, Bangladesh

Abstract | Intimate partner violence (IPV), also known as domestic violence, is a pattern of behavior where one partner uses physical, sexual, emotional, or economic abuse to gain power and control over the other partner in a relationship. Intimate partner violence is increasing and several factors influence this to happen, which is a problem. This research study investigated the factors influencing intimate partner violence in Khulna City, Bangladesh. The objectives of this study were to investigate the pattern of intimate partner violence in Khulna City and to identify and analyze the factors that influence intimate partner violence. The research has used the mixed-method, where both the quantitative and qualitative analysis was conducted. The analysis includes quantitative analysis, Interviews, and FDG with 8 individuals. Quantitative data was collected through a survey where the sample size was 140, and qualitative data was collected through interviews where the sample size was 16. The random sampling method was used to select the necessary sample for this study. The study has found that educational attainment, occupation, monthly income, poverty, addiction, psychological disorders, empowerment, infertility, sexual relationships, patriarchal attitudes, and gender inequality were also significantly related to IPV and working as the key factors that influence Intimate partner violence. The new findings of this thesis are that becoming empowered, sympathy care of Gender inequality, adaptation to foreign cultures, And lastly, the most common things in this era are extramarital affairs, which is causing intimate partner violence. The findings highlight the importance of these factors in shaping the occurrence and dynamics of IPV in Khulna City, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and policies to address this issue effectively. |
