Abstract | The paper examines the linguistic materials of habituality in both Eʋe and Ga. This extends to determining the state of the materials in the syntax of Eʋe and Ga, that is, how aspect is marked variously from the syntactic viewpoint. The earlier studies carried out on -na, (see Aziaku 2012 & Aziaku & Awoonor-Aziaku (2021) respectively discussed the orthography and phonologically conditioned morphemes of -na in Eʋe. The data for this study was obtained from both oral and secondary sources. The study concluded that the linguistic materials used to mark generic events are na, a, 4, e, and nɛ, in Eʋe and a and ɔ in Ga. With respect to aspect marking in the targeted languages, the past tense is not located in the verb and the form is repeated in serial verb constructions (SVCs). |
