Abstract | ABSTRACT In recent years, there has been a notable shift in the discourse surrounding economic development and social progress, with increasing attention being paid to models that prioritize inclusivity and sustainability. Among these, Social and Solidarity Economy (SSEs) have emerged as a particularly promising framework, offering alternative pathways to economic development that prioritize principles of equity, cooperation, and social justice. This paper provides a comprehensive review of SSEs in the context of India, with a specific focus on their role in fostering employment generation and empowerment. Through a systematic literature review, this paper aims to define SSEs, analyse their contribution to employment creation, explore mechanisms of empowerment, and assess the challenges and opportunities they present. The methodology involves a rigorous search and synthesis of existing literature, drawing from academic databases, journals, reports, and other relevant sources. Key themes and findings are synthesized to provide insights into SSEs' potential as drivers of inclusive and sustainable development in India. By shedding light on the dynamics of SSE ecosystems and their socio-economic impacts, this study seeks to inform evidence-based interventions and policy reforms aimed at promoting more equitable and resilient socio-economic systems. Ultimately, the research aims to contribute towards the realization of a more just and prosperous society in India. |
