Abstract | This research paper examines the role of interest groups in the policy-making process in India, focusing on their strategies, influence, and outcomes. Utilizing frameworks such as Institutional Rational Choice, Multiple Streams Framework, Advocacy Coalition Framework, and Punctuated Equilibrium Theory, the study elucidates how interest groups navigate the complex socio-political landscape of India. Key strategies employed include direct lobbying, public campaigns, coalition formation, media utilization, and legal actions. The paper highlights successful cases like the Right to Information Act and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, demonstrating the transformative power of sustained advocacy. However, it also addresses the challenges interest groups face, including bureaucratic complexity, political resistance, socio-economic disparities, and regulatory hurdles. By analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms through which interest groups operate and their impact on policy outcomes in India. The findings underscore the critical role of civil society in enhancing transparency, accountability, and democratic governance, while also pointing to the need for structural reforms to support effective advocacy. |
