The Dystopian Vision of Control in Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell

Abstract The research paper aims to analyse the work Nineteen Eighty-Four published in 1949, Orwell's most famous and influential novel. To examine the book which is set in a dystopian future where the world is divided into three superstates: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. The story revolves around the protagonist Winston Smith, a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in Oceania. To observe the novel portrayal as a totalitarian regime that exercises complete control over its citizens' thoughts and actions, employing techniques such as constant surveillance, propaganda, historical revisionism, and the suppression of individuality. The aim is to reinstate the political autocracy that exists in the novel that’s making the setting dystopian.
