Abstract The present paper focuses on the life writings of Kamala Das and Sara Suleri. Men have dominated human experience and women have been silenced for a long time. However, Kamala Das and Sara Suleri urge the womankind to think differently and present women characters who are untouched by the patriarchal point of view and can see beyond the male gaze. Describing the power relations between men and women these two writers through their life writings project women as they are or desire to be and not as they ought to be as per the patriarchal society.
