Abstract The integration of social media into children’s daily lives has sparked significant debates regarding its impact on cognitive, social, and emotional development. This study critically examines existing literature to explore the dual nature of social media's influence. It highlights benefits such as enhanced educational opportunities and connectivity, alongside risks like reduced attention spans, cyberbullying, and emotional distress. Theoretical frameworks, including Bandura’s social learning theory and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, offer insights into how social media shapes children’s behaviors and interactions. Strategies to mitigate risks and maximize benefits are discussed, emphasizing the roles of parents, educators, and policymakers in fostering healthy digital environments. By synthesizing empirical evidence and theoretical perspectives, this paper contributes to understanding the complex dynamics of social media’s impact on child development, providing implications for future research and practical interventions.
