Abstract An experiment on the effect of weeding and the application of urea on the yield of dwarf beans was carried out in the town of Butembo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in a bid to examine the possibility of field association of dwarf beans with Galinsoga ciliata used as feed for rabbits but requires nitrogen. Three levels of weeding were applied, namely zero weeding, total weeding and selective weeding while three doses of urea were applied to each level of weeding including zero fertilization, the addition of 80 kg of urea per hectare and the dose of 160 kg of urea per hectare. The beans were planted at a spacing of 30 cm and the haricot grains were harvested after 100 days from sowing. At the end of these experiments, it turned out that total weeding did not improve the yield of the beans. The presence of Galinsoga in the farm did not affect the quality of the grains in terms of mineral matter or nitrogen matter either. An increase in the nitrogen content of bean seeds from 19 % to 23 % was observed when the urea supply varied from 80 kg to 160 kg per hectare.
