Abstract | The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of school leaders in the implementation of alternative delivery modalities during calamities. Employing a qualitative research design and a phenomenological approach, the study investigated the lived experiences of ten public school leaders in Davao de Oro, Philippines, who navigated responsive leadership amidst calamities. Through in-depth interviews (IDIs), the research captured the narratives of these leaders, emphasizing their adaptability, decision-making skills, support for teachers, and efforts to enhance communication and collaboration. The result of the study highlighted that adaptive leadership was crucial for remaining flexible, responsive, and open to learning new approaches. This adaptability was essential for supporting teachers and students and ensuring the continuity of education through the integration of new technologies. In the school setting, resilience and problem-solving were needed to solve uncertainties. Adaptive leaders who confronted problems, ambiguity, and complexity with confidence fostered supportive environments and utilized adversities to develop essential leadership skills. In addition, engagement with local government units and barangay officials in developing child-focused projects further enhanced learning environments and community involvement. Teachers were also encouraged to explore innovative teaching approaches, leveraging online platforms and digital resources. Enhancing collaboration with community organizations would leverage resources and expertise and enrich student experiences. |
