Management of Diabetic Ketoacidosis among Nurses: An Interventional Study at the New Tafo Government Hospital

Abstract Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKa)is an acute significant,life threatening medical emergency complication of diabetes mellitus.Mortality in Ghana is mostly due to misdiagnosis and mismanagement.Study aim was to evaluate Nurses knowledge on the management of DKa, identity relationship between nurses level of knowledge and sociodemoographic characteristics , available training programs for nurses and find out challenges faced by nurses in managing DKa clients .Quasi experimental pre,post test study design used.Respondent were randomly selected and data analysis done with Spss version 29.Chi square used to find relationships between variables.In conclusion, there was an average level of nurses’ knowledge on management of DKA and a statistically significant correlation between nurses' level of knowledge of managing DKA and their years of clinical experience, whether they had received training in managing DKA or not, and whether they had ever cared for patients with DM or DKA.
