Integrated Yoga Therapy with Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Comprehensive Review

Author(s) Vandana Rathore
Country India
Abstract Primary dysmenorrhea, characterized by painful menstrual cramps, is a prevalent gynecological condition affecting a significant proportion of menstruating individuals. It often leads to substantial physical discomfort and psychosocial stress, impacting the quality of life. Conventional treatments, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and oral contraceptives, are effective but come with potential side effects and do not address the underlying causes. Integrated Yoga Therapy (IYT), combining yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation, has emerged as a complementary treatment offering holistic benefits. This review evaluates the efficacy of IYT in alleviating primary dysmenorrhea symptoms and explores the mechanisms through which it exerts its therapeutic effects.
