Abstract The world is currently dealing with a second viral outbreak, monkeypox, which has the potential to become an epidemic after the COVID-19 pandemic. Monkeypox is an emerging zoonotic disease that for decades has been viewed as an infectious disease with significant epidemic potential because of the increasing occurrence of human outbreaks in recent years. A monkeypox outbreak is spreading in territories where the virus is not generally prevalent. . The natural reservoir of Mpox is unknown yet. Mpox might be carried by African
rodents and nonhuman primates (such as monkeys). The present review provides information on epidemiology, clinical symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and preventive measures of Mpox. In conclusion: Monkeypox poses a severe threat to public health due to the lack of specific vaccinations and effective antivirals. Surveillance studies in affected regions can assist in the early diagnosis of disease and help to control significant outbreaks.
