Abstract | This paper investigates the influence of the type of regime in power (autocracy or democracy) on Bangladesh’s economy, using regression analyses in the form ordinary least squares, using data of 25 years. Statistical investigation showed that democracies were more successful than dictatorships in promoting economic growth, and improving education and health indices. The convergence hypothesis implies that socioeconomic indicators were positively affected during the tenure of elected regimes. In addition, comparisons of the Indian and Chinese models of governance, in the context of their economic performance, are included to ascertain the successes and constraints of governments in these two South Asian economic giants. |
