The Effectiveness of Case Method in Teaching Calculus using Lesson Study Model

Author(s) Shan Xu, Ma. Esperanza
Country Philippines
Abstract This literature review focuses on the effectiveness of the case method in teaching calculus using the lesson study model. It is structured around three key components: lesson planning, lesson implementation, and evaluation of the teaching process. The first section explores how the case method informs the development of lesson plans, emphasizing real-world problems and student-centered learning strategies to enhance conceptual understanding in calculus. The second section analyzes the practical application of these lesson plans, detailing the interaction between instructors and students, the role of collaboration, and adaptive teaching practices. Lastly, the evaluation phase examines how the lesson study model supports reflective teaching, enabling continuous improvement through feedback and analysis of student outcomes, ultimately leading to more effective calculus instruction.
