Abstract This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of indigenous inland fisheries development and management practices in India. Drawing on extensive literature review and case studies, it examines traditional ecological knowledge, community-based management systems, and the integration of indigenous practices with modern scientific approaches. The research highlights the diversity of inland fisheries across India's varied ecosystems and the critical role of indigenous communities in sustainable resource management. Key challenges including overfishing, habitat degradation, and socioeconomic pressures are analyzed. The paper proposes policy recommendations to support and scale indigenous management practices while addressing conservation needs.
