Abstract An experiment was conducted at ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune to investigate the effects of dormancy-breaking substances on gladiolus. Treatments included potassium nitrate (1.5%), thiourea (2%), benzylaminopurine (BAP, 100 ppm), cold stratification, and control. Results showed that BAP at 100 ppm significantly enhanced corm sprouting, bud activation, and corm yield. Potassium nitrate (1.5%) improved corm diameter and weight. Biochemical analysis revealed that BAP-treated corms had increased soluble sugars and cytokinin, with reduced abscisic acid, indicating a role in dormancy breaking.
