Author(s) Md. Imran Wahab, IPS
Country India
Abstract This study examines the need for transformation of police training in response to modern challenges. A multifaceted approach is essential to merge current societal issues with technological innovations and operational enhancements. Revising training curricula to address emerging issues such as sectarian violence, crowd control, law enforcement and event management, traffic regulation, gender and cultural sensitivity, cybercrime, and cryptocurrency offences, along with enhancing infrastructure of training institutes, will effectively prepare officers for real-life situations. Prioritizing leadership development, community engagement, stress management, cultural sensitivity, technological proficiency, and human rights in training will foster a more flexible law enforcement approach. Additionally, the integration of mental health resources and interpersonal skills training is crucial for building empathy and reinforcing community relationships. Revamping recruitment strategies to draw qualified candidates, alongside continuous professional development for trainers focused on evidence-based methods and simulation exercises, is imperative. Ultimately, harnessing the power of AI, big data, and international collaboration will enable police personnel to navigate the complexities of contemporary policing, resulting in a responsive, skilled, and community-focused force that effectively addresses the intricate landscape of today's social and legal issues.
