Revolutionizing Healthcare with Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Integration

Author(s) Jaishankar Inukonda
Country United States
Abstract The integration of social determinants of health (SDOH) into healthcare systems is transforming how health equity, outcomes, and cost-efficiency are approached. SDOH, encompassing socioeconomic, environmental, and behavioral factors, significantly influence individual and population health. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the critical role of SDOH, as disparities in housing, employment, education, and access to healthcare exacerbated the pandemic's impact on vulnerable communities. This article explores how addressing SDOH through data-driven strategies and community-based approaches can revolutionize healthcare delivery. Using the COVID-19 response as a use case, we highlight challenges, innovations, and opportunities for integrating SDOH into a holistic, equitable, and sustainable healthcare framework.
