Abstract | This paper investigates the psychological effects of fashion on consumer identity and mental health, focusing on how fashion shapes social standards and serves as a means of self-expression. It examines how psychological elements, including self-concept, peer perception, social media, and cultural influence, impact fashion decisions through a multidisciplinary lens. The dual nature of fashion is also discussed in the paper, emphasizing how it may promote inclusivity and increase self-esteem while simultaneously exacerbating mental health conditions like anxiety, body dysmorphia, and compulsive spending. This study attempts to offer a thorough grasp of how fashion shapes consumer identity and psychological well-being by examining several academic frameworks, such as self-expression theory and social identity theory. It emphasizes how crucial it is to support inclusive and sustainable fashion practices to improve social cohesion and mental wellness. |
