Abstract | The emergence of the field of statistics was both an inevitable and necessary occurrence given the advancements in the world of science. In psychology, the ability to understand statistics is rapidly becoming an increasingly specialized field because of the growing reliance on quantitative methods in research – not just qualitative. An understanding of statistics is vital for psychologists, both for the purposes of applying knowledge to enhance our community's understanding of the behavior of individuals, and as a vital part of education in psychology. Psychologists today may want to perform research with quantitative components. And even if we don't perform research – and not all of us do – a fundamental understanding of the major effects of research is very beneficial to our professional work in any case. |
