Deconstructing Gender Inequality: A Critical Analysis of Buchi Emecheta’s Select Novels

Author(s) J.Farida, Vidya Dass
Country India
Abstract Gender crisis and inequality are central themes in Buchi Emecheta's works, where she consistently explores the complexities of gender roles, particularly the challenges faced by women in both African and Western contexts. Her novels often address how societal expectations, cultural traditions, and colonial legacies create obstacles for women, particularly within the frameworks of marriage, motherhood, and the broader patriarchal structures of society. Through her vivid portrayal of female characters, Emecheta critiques gender inequality and exposes the multifaceted struggles women face in their search for independence, dignity, and self-realization.
