Abstract Abstract
The Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the greatest creation and the noblest human being. As a human, it is natural for him to possess human characteristics; however, his qualities were unique and unparalleled compared to any other human. Although he performed bodily functions such as urination and defecation, these were not comparable to those of ordinary humans. Nevertheless, Nevertheless, he would perform ablution and attain purity after urinating and defecating. Some scholars have attempted to argue, based on certain hadiths regarding his practice of istinja, that his urine, feces, and blood were not pure. On the other hand, according to the majority of jurists, all the fadalat (extra fluids released from the blessed body) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are pure, especially urine, defecation and blessed blood. Another opinion holds that these substances are pure for his ummah but, given his unparalleled stature, they may not be considered pure for him personally. These differing opinions have caused division within the Muslim community. This article seeks to analyze the evidence for these views and present the most logical opinion to resolve this division. A qualitative method has been employed in this article. The conclusion reached is that the last opinion is the most reasonable and appropriate.
