Author(s) Siddhi Pandey, Priyanshu Kumar
Country India
Abstract This study examines the socio-economic and societal aspects of the Birjia community in Mahuadanr block, Latehar district, Jharkhand, using a mixed-methods approach with surveys, interviews, and secondary data. A sample of 36 households was selected through multistage random sampling, purposive sampling, and snowballing techniques. Findings indicate that most households earn ₹15,000–₹25,000 monthly, relying heavily on forest products for income. While basic amenities like toilets and bank accounts are common, challenges remain in access to modern energy, digital banking, and education, especially for girls. The community primarily engages in subsistence farming, with limited commercial agriculture, highlighting the need for focused development interventions in education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods.
