Portraying Bihu Songs and Dances in Assamese Film: An Analytical Study

Abstract | The Bihu Festival is the lifeline of the Assamese people that has been observing since the time immemorial. This festival is undergoing rapid change due to the impact of modern education and technology. The agricultural festival related to man and nature has been shifted to modern city bourgeoisies. Through the films, different kinds of thought, feeling, emotion, struggle, and even about the people’s livelihood are seen. By exploiting different aspects of human beings and non-human elements the film-makers try to portray his dreams so as to attract the minds of the people. The film- makers incorporate Bihu and its music, dance, as either an integral part of Assamese culture or enjoyment. The aims of this paper are: i. to highlight the Bihu festival and its importance in society ii. to analyze how the film makers are the exploiting Bihu dances and songs Assamese film. |
