Adapting to the Digital Classroom: College Teachers Experience with Online Teaching during Covid-19

Abstract During the COVID-19 pandemic, online teaching appeared as panacea for interrupted academic activities making it feasible to continue the teaching-learning processes while keeping the academic fraternity safe at their homes. The faculty members started adapting themselves to the changed virtual academic scenario having new modes of content delivery and teacher-student interaction. Therefore to assess the problems and challenges encountered by the teaching fraternity, the present study, attempted to study the attitudes of teachers of different higher education of Sikkim, towards online teaching and learning. The researcher employed convergent parallel mixed method, to explore the perceptions of college teachers, on the sudden shift of pedagogy from conventional face to face mode to the online mode of teaching. The researcher also attempted to assess the levels of attitude of teachers working in higher education institutions towards online teaching and learning and whether the attitudes differs with regard to different dimensions on online teaching and learning.
