Abstract	Water supports life on earth and so in aquatic ecosystems such as ponds and lakes. The increased population rate, agriculture, industries contributed to pollution of pond and lakes. So there is need to determine the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of natural water resources system as quality of water resources depends on a large number of physico-chemical parameters and also to identify magnitude and source of any pollution load. These physico-chemical parameters of lakes and ponds also play an important role in designing conservation strategies if water bodies found polluted. This review summarized the work done by various researchers on physico-chemical parameter analysis of water in ponds and lakes,
