Abstract India, poised to become a global leader by 2047, marks a centenary of independence with aspirations to transform into a developed nation. Central to this vision is the role of education, driven by empowered and well-trained teachers. Teacher education serves as the backbone of a robust education system, shaping competent educators capable of fostering critical thinking, innovation, and societal values among students. In this transformative journey, teacher education must align with India's developmental goals. By 2047, the emphasis must shift towards multidisciplinary pedagogies, digital integration, and context-sensitive approaches to address diverse learning needs. Preparing teachers to handle futuristic challenges such as artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability, and global interconnectivity is critical. Programs must also inculcate ethical values, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity to nurture responsible citizens. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 provides a strategic framework to revamp teacher education. It stresses competency-based training, continuous professional development, and the establishment of integrated teacher education programs. Collaborative efforts between governments, academia, and industries are essential to equip educators with contemporary skills. Ultimately, the vision of a developed India by 2047 hinges on an education system that not only imparts knowledge but also inspires innovation and character. Transforming teacher education into a dynamic, future-ready enterprise will ensure a generation of educators capable of empowering young minds to contribute meaningfully to the nation's growth and global stature.
