Abstract This project explores the design of a cost-effective, portable fused deposition filament-making machine for producing 3mm ABS filament. It highlights the environmental benefits of recycling PET bottle waste into 3D printing filament, addressing both sustainability and cost challenges. The paper reviews self-production methods, covering key aspects such as material preparation, mechanical design, temperature control, speed regulation, cooling, and machine operation. By promoting recycled polymers as an alternative to traditional filaments, this work enhances the affordability and sustainability of 3D printing.
Keywords 3D printing, filament production, cost-effective, fused deposition, ABS filament, PET bottles, plastic waste, recycling, sustainability, self-production, material preparation, mechanical construction, temperature control, speed regulation, cooling mechanisms, filament formation, machine operation, environmental concerns, economic limitations, accessibility
