Synergistic Effects of TiO2 in SiO2-Pb3O4-Y2O3 Glasses: A Conceptual Framework for Tailored Properties

Abstract This study presents a theoretical investigation of the composition-property relationships in the glass system 50 SiO2−(40−x) Pb3O4−10 Y2O3−x TiO2, x=0 to 1 mol% using empirical models and theoretical frameworks, key properties such as density, molar volume, oxygen packing density (OPD), dielectric constant, optical band gap are calculated. The results reveal that the incorporation of TiO₂ influences the structural and functional properties of the glass, with trends such as a decrease in density, refractive index, dielectric constant and an increase in oxygen packing density and optical energy gap. These findings provide valuable insights into the design and optimization of lead-based silicate glasses for applications in optical materials, dielectrics, and radiation shielding. The study highlights the potential of theoretical modelling as a powerful tool for predicting and tailoring the properties of multicomponent glass systems.
