Help-Seeking Behaviours in Individuals Experiencing Romantic Partner Conflicts

Author(s) Hasi Shah, Dr. Deviga Subramani
Country India
Abstract Conflict in romantic relationships is a common experience, but individuals in high-conflict relationships often struggle with whether to seek professional help. This research explores the help-seeking behaviors of individuals facing significant relationship conflict, examining both the factors that encourage and hinder seeking support. Using the Romantic Partner Conflict Scale (RPCS) and qualitative interviews, the study investigates the prevalence of help-seeking and its correlation with conflict levels. It identifies key barriers, such as stigma, accessibility issues, and personal reluctance, while also exploring reasons for discontinuing support, including dissatisfaction, emotional distress, and logistical challenges. By shedding light on these dynamics, the study emphasizes the need for improved support systems and interventions to facilitate access to effective relationship assistance.
