Abstract | The proliferation of social media has democratized investment advice, enabling influencers to reach vast audiences with ease. However, this trend has also birthed a fertile ground for cyber frauds and fiduciary mishaps. This paper delves into the dark underbelly of social media investment guidance, exploring the risks and repercussions faced by unsuspecting investors. It examines the allure of online financial influencers, the prevalence of misleading or fraudulent advice, and the challenges in regulating this digital frontier. Through case studies and analysis, the paper highlights the tactics used by cybercriminals to exploit naïve investors and the subsequent financial and psychological impacts. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of digital literacy, regulatory oversight, and the responsibility of social media platforms in mitigating these risks. The findings aim to raise awareness and foster a safer online investment environment. |
