Sextortion: The Unseen Menace of the Digital Age

Abstract | The sinister crime of sextortion has turned into a significant concern of the digital age due to its widespread reach and the vulnerability of the victims of the crime. The crime of sextortion involves coercing the victim to such a stage that they are compelled to share private pictures or monetary benefits to the perpetrators through a variety of stages including social engineering, manipulation, hacking etc. the crime of sextortion intersects with other crime forms such as child pornography, human trafficking, exploitation etc. this paper will focus on the necessary steps required in order to combat Sextortion along with a comparative study of the crime and the modus operandi of the crime in different nations trying to find the gap in the criminal justice system which is contributing in the rapid growth of the particular form of crime. |
