Privacy and Data Protection in Cyberworld

Author(s) Mr. Vishesh Prakash Srivastava
Country India
Abstract The rise of the digital age has transformed how personal data is collected, stored, and used, often without individuals’ full knowledge or consent. With the increasing reliance on the internet, smart devices, and online platforms, concerns around data privacy and the protection of personal information have grown significantly. In India, the recognition of privacy as a fundamental right through the Puttaswamy judgment marked a turning point, but existing legal frameworks, including the Information Technology Act and the draft Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, have faced criticism for lacking strong safeguards and accountability. This research aims to examine the evolution of the right to privacy in India, assess the effectiveness of current data protection laws, and explore how well they align with international standards, particularly in the context of emerging rights like the Right to Be Forgotten.
