Abstract | Story- telling has been a very common and age-old genre of literature. It has nevertheless been followed in every sphere of life vis-à-vis political, social, psychological, educational and many more. It is an art by itself. Ikigai is a Japanese concept of living which translates itself as a ‘Reason for Being’. One needs to feel an inherent desire to stay motivated and live life on one’s own terms. The four basic forms of story-telling in this book are: 1. What you love: This refers to what one enjoys doing 2. What you are good at: This discusses the idea of how one recognizes his/her own talent or what one is good at. 3. The idea of getting rewarded. 4. What the world needs. Having a purpose and eating healthy are the only ingredients to the success story of individuals according to the Japanese. Through three more elements namely, the social Ikigai, non-social Ikigai and anti-social Ikigai , the author Francesc Miralles envisages it. This refers to that which is acceptable by society, unrelated to society and the strength to outlive negative cleshays. This paper examines the blending of three elements to form a wholeness ensuring longevity of life, the result of which is a live precept of the long life of Okinawans. This is also known as Logo Therapy in literature or the “joie de vivre of life” in general terms. |
