A Study of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society Amritsar: An NGO Promoting Organic Farming in Punjab

Abstract In recent years, the role of non-governmental organizations has increased in most developing countries. This article studies the case of Punjab where the number of prominent NGOs has emerged. The general advantages that NGOs have over other developmental agencies working on environmental issues are their flexibility, speed of operation, and ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances. These organizations concerned with environment and development issues and problems, can play an important role in working towards sustainable development. They are innumerable all over the world and their services are voluminous and invaluable. As worldwide organizations, NGOs can provide services from the North Pole to the South Pole. In the present study, the NGO engaged in various activities related to environment protection like awareness rising among people through publishing and distribution books, promoting organic farming, conducting seminars and workshops. Such human endeavour towards individuals and collective human happiness is worth mentioning.
