Abstract | Films can have a big impact on the audience and hence in the early decades after independence, they were used for development purposes in India. Films can be used to give positive messages to the audience as well as negative messages. Films can stereotype groups such as minorities, age groups, race, gender, etc. This study was conducted to understand, how old age people (60+) are depicted in Hindi commercial cinema. It is a visual study; the researcher has used semiotic analysis to study the depiction of old characters. The character traits, objects, and the setting were observed. It was found that the depictions of older characters in the selected films were similar but due to the narrative, each one had some distinct characteristics of their own. |
