The Role of Local Government in the Development of Tourism in Iringa Region, Tanzania

Abstract This study assessed the role of the Local Government(LG) in the development of tourism in the Iringa Region. The study was conducted in order to come up with crucial strategies to ensure that the collaboration between the Local Governments and Central Governments brings sustainable tourism development in the country. The study employed questionnaires, observation, Focus Group Discussion and interviews to collect data. Also, the study used content analysis, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel to analyze data. Finally, it was concluded that Local Governments have a crucial role to play in ensuring the development of tourism in their vicinity including promoting peace and security, identification of tourism attractions as well as the diversification and development of tourism products.
