Author(s) Semlali Rachida, Souhassou Mustapha, El Atillah Abdessamad
Country Morocco
Abstract The special events that have marked Morocco's geological history have positioned the country as a prominent mining country, particularly in phosphates. Although Morocco holds the world's largest reserves of phosphates and ranks well in the production of other minerals like silver, barite, and cobalt, the non-phosphate mining sector faces significant performance deficiencies. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the Moroccan mining sector, while shedding light on the challenges related to legislation, scientific infrastructure, investment, workforce, social acceptance, and other crucial factors that hinder its progress. Additionally, the paper offers insights into the various strategies adopted by the government to overcome these obstacles and unleash the potential of the promising sector.
