Abstract Pregnancy is a period of profound physiological and anatomical changes in a woman's body, and it often raises complex challenges when non-obstetric surgeries are required. This comprehensive review explores the multifaceted considerations surrounding the administration of anesthesia during non-obstetric surgical procedures in pregnant individuals. It examines the incidence of such surgeries, the principles of anesthetic management, teratogenicity concerns, and the implications for maternal and fetal health. Additionally, it delves into the controversial topic of whether anesthesia during pregnancy, particularly in the mid-trimester, affects fetal neurodevelopment. The review concludes by emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making, multidisciplinary collaboration, and future research to ensure the well-being of both mother and fetus.
