Plants - Insect Interactions and Involvement of Insect’s Microbiota

Abstract | We're just at the beginning to learn about the vast array of microorganisms that are connected to insects and how they influence the relationships between insects and plants. Insects are excellent transporters and possible recipients of plant diseases and bacteria that modify plant defenses, in addition to directly profiting from symbiotic microbial metabolism, insects also acquire and spread pathogens within their surroundings. Plants induce stress-specific defenses to fight off insects and their bacteria in order to avert damage. Nonetheless, a multitude of modifications found in both bacteria and insects enable them to evade the activation of plant defense mechanisms. It has become clear in recent years that the vast diversity and metabolic capability of microorganisms associated with insects may influence insect-plant interactions significantly more than previously thought. The latter could have an impact on how sustainable pest management techniques can be designed and developed. Thus, in a fast-developing field of study, this review clarifies the state of our understanding regarding multitrophic insect–microbe–plant interactions. |
