Abstract	Omar – may God be pleased with him - is celebrated for his mastery of all facets of Islamic jurisprudence, his close appreciation of the objectives of shari’a and his propensity to articulate the best ways to fulfill those objectives. Furthermore, his aptness to integrate an acute understanding of the religious text with a profound cognizance of people’s struggles in the real world have positioned this leading figure as the ultimate example of ijtihad.
