Understanding the Legal and Policy Challenges Faced by Transgender Individuals in Kerala

Abstract	Kerala has been recognized for its progressive social policies and has been at the forefront of gender rights movements in India. However, despite the strides made in the area of gender equality, the transgender community continues to face significant legal and policy challenges in the state. These challenges range from societal stigmatization to exclusion from basic services, such as healthcare and education. In this study, we take a closer look at the specific legal and policy barriers faced by transgender individuals in Kerala. We examine the gaps in existing legislation and highlight the need for more comprehensive policies to ensure that the transgender community in Kerala is not left behind in the journey towards equal rights and opportunities.
